Special for all of us who gather to celebrate our renowned SPAADS heritage over a tipple or two of wine, we have some of the Okanagan's best-of-the-grape just waiting to be uncorked. After innumerable tastings, St. Hubertus & Oak Bay Estate Winery was our vinyard of choice, and from its selection we have picked two -- a red & a white -- that will prove irresistable to fighter pilots and those who love them.
Firstly, the "red" of favour is Northern Summer, a medium bodied dry red wine with a fruity nose, flavourful palate and mellow tannins. It is a blend of French varietals, all estate grown, comprising Pinot Noir, Gamay and Marechal Foch. It pairs well with pilots' palates and ladies laces.
Then there is the "white" -- a sensuous Chasselas -- a popular variety known as Fendant in Switzerland. Delicate and refreshing with grassy, floral notes on the nose (wow), it is light bodied with an inherent freshness of lemon zest. It gives pilots evidence of strength and makes ladies blush.
These are great wines, and St Hubertus will have especially designed SPAADS labels in striking designs differentiating red and white. The "red" will have a large SPAADS BC 2010 logo and F-86 background, and the "white" will show all 12 squadron crests and a smaller SPAADS logo. Both wines will compliment our Gala Banquet on Friday evening. Two red and one white will be placed on each table.
Your SPAADS BC 2010 Reunion Committee is offering you the opportunity to order SPAADS wine to take home with you on departure. The cost for 'Northern Summer' (red) is $15.00/bottle and 'Chasselas' (white) is $18.00/bottle. (less if you buy a case of 12 !)
